Working with a Farm Manager of the Year nominee

Harper Adams student, Chris Vero, is working on a farm nominated for Farm Manager of the Year and loving every moment. The FdSc Agriculture student joined Kingston Farm in the Summer of 2019 and has been putting all his degree knowledge into practice.

Chris commented on his experience, saying: "I've never felt like a student; there's this perception of the student having to do the rubbish jobs but I feel like I've done everything that I never thought I would have the chance to do. It's just been brilliant.

"I've done everything on the farm from fertiliser spreading to a bit of spraying and land drainage."

With the farm's nomination, we asked Chris what it is like working alongside manager John. He commented: "I think John's been nominated for Farm Manager of the Year because he's brought this farm up to another level. He's been really helpful from where I started to where I am now. It's a pleasure to work here and I'll be sad to leave. It's fun and I'll be sad to leave."

John takes on a Harper Adams student every year for them to experience work out on a farm. He spoke about how "the job requires motivation and energy" and that being able to help students prepare for industry, try their hand at things and make mistakes can only help them get the jobs they are seeking.
